Splinter Voices in MMD Calling NEC Meeting Off Advocates for the extraordinary party convention in the opposition MMD have grown cold feet ahead of Saturday’s extraordinary National Executive Committee meeting demanding that it be called off. Party chairperson for finance Situmbeko Musokotwane, who is among the leaders that have been publicly posturing as proponents for dialogue, says having the NEC meeting on Saturday is too soon as the provinces were still resolving the question of the party’s extraordinary convention. Musokotwane said he was aware that the NEC is also going to consider electing a new secretary general which according to him is untimely. “There is supposed to be a NEC meeting on Saturday personally I am of the view that with all these goings on it is not clearly wise to because I know the NEC meeting is about electing a national secretary,” he said. “The way Simbao was removed is the genesis of all these divisions in the party.” Musokotwane, a long time presidential hopeful within the MMD said the NEC has to wait until the provinces have given their verdict on the convention. “Right now that question is being addressed by the provinces at various meetings. If they want a convention they will say so,” he said. However, since the allegedly Patriotic Front and Post Newspapers sponsored confusion erupted only Western Province has submitted a petition in favour of the convention. zambiareports/2014/04/24/splinter-voices-mmd-calling-nec-meeting/
