Springfield group brings dads and kids to the books SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield’s “Dads Make a Difference” organization hit the books Saturday. Up until now, Dad’s Make a Difference was just known for its Father’s Day march and their kids essay contest. On Saturday, fathers and their children spent quality time at the Mason Square neighborhood library. Fathers read to their kids as they shared this second annual book club event. Kevin Green of Springfield told 22News, “It’s important that fathers get involved in their children’s literary development because during literacy development kids are opened up to more reading, to more sharing stories.” Eric Duncan of Springfield said, “We can find a sense of unity and community and link up with other father. I really enjoyed the event.” It’ll be a regular monthly event where dads and their kids hit the books together, along with getting together and sharing some artwork. 12-year-old Rachel Durham said, “I painted in a book today, about a little fish and a sharky, I made one for my mom, and painted one with my initials in it.” It’s apparently never too early for dads to start making a difference in their children’s lives. They’re already looking forward to their next book club gathering on Saturday, December 13th.
