Springs in the Desert “ Feel Like Running Away?” Psalm 55 Pastor Tat Stewart I. Introduction: Do you feel trapped? II. The reasons for wanting to run away (Psalm 55:1-8) A. No relief through prayer (v. 1-2) “Listen to my prayer O God, do not ignore my plea, hear me and answer. My thoughts trouble me and I am distraught.” B. No relief from abusive people (v.3, 13) “at the voice of the enemy, at the stares of the wicked. For they bring down suffering upon me. C. No emotional relief (v.4-5) “My heart is in anguish within me, the terrors of death assail me. Fear and trembling have beset me, horror has overwhelmed me.” III. The fantasy of running away (Psalm 55:6-8) A. The longing for rest (v.6) “Oh that I would have the wings of a dove! I would fly away and be at rest. B. The longing for escape (v.7) “I would flee far away and stay and stay in the desert” C. The longing for a safe place (v.8) “I would hurry to my place of shelter, far from the tempest and storm.” IV. The power of running to God A. Exercise spiritual disciplines (v. 16-18) “Evening ,morning, and noon, I cry out in distress and He hears my voice. (17) B. Learn to trust His promises (v.22) “He will never let the righteous fall” “But as for me, I trust in you.” (v.23)
