Srila Rupa Goswamis Disappearance Day. Let our attention be focused at Srila Rupa Goswami’s lotus feet who was personally and directly instructed by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Since then, all followers of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu are called Rupanugas (Srila Rupa Goswami’s followers). Srila Rupa Goswami became our guru by showing us the path and activities to be performed in devotional service (Abideya-tattva). Mahaprabhu gave two main orders to Srila Rupa Goswami: Firstly, to relocate the hidden holy places in the Vrindavan area and secondly, to write and preach Gaudiya Vaishnava theology. Our beloved ISKCON acarya A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada, the foremost preacher of Krsna Consciousness in the world, received inspiration and enthusiasm, during his staying years at Radha Damodara temple. Srila Prabhupada meditated at the feet of Srila Rupa Goswami’s Samadhi between the years 1959-1964 and translated the first canto of Srimad Bhagavatam, before setting off for the Western countries. Srila Prabhupada later declared that from his kitchen window, he would gaze at Srila Rupa Goswami’s Samadhi, then visioned how to spread Krsna Consciousness in the world. Srila Rupa Goswami wrote Bhakti Rasamrta Sindhu, taking sevakas from the beginner stages of faith and secure rules and regulation to perform devotional service, warning of the pitfalls whilst walking the path and explaining the importance of chanting the Hare Krsna maha mantra. Later in the book, Srila Rupa Goswami elaborates on the different transcendental exchanges, tastes and mellows between Krsna and His devotees. Srila Prabhupada made a summary of the Bhakti Rasamrta Sindhu, which he entitled The Nectar of Devotion. During Kartika (Oct-Nov) 1972 Srila Prabhupada lectured on Srila Rupa Goswamis Bhakti Rasamrta Sindhu at the Radha-Damodar Temple. Srila Prabhupada imparted those lessons in the courtyard near Srila Rupa Goswamis samadhi and bhajan-kutir. Other writings by Srila Rupa Goswami are: Ujjvala-nilamani : This work exclusively explains the conception of madhurya-rasa (divine conjugal love). Ujjvala-nilamani is considered to be a sequel to the Bhakti-rasamrta-sindhu. Laghu-bhagavatamrta: It is a summary of Sanatana Goswamis book Brhat-bhagavatamrta. It begins by explaining the intrinsic nature of Krishna and his incarnations and subsequently deals with Krishna’s devotees. Vidagdhamadhava (1524) & Lalitamadhava (1529): Rupa originally began to write these two dramas as one in 1516; but he completed them as two separate plays in 1524 and 1529 respectively. It is said that Rupa had a vision of Satyabhama, one of Krishnas queens in Dvaraka, who told him to divide the book into two separate dramas. Thus, Lalitamadhava deals with Krishnas pastimes in Dvaraka, and Vidagdhamadhava narrates Krishnas pastimes in Vrindavana. Stavamala : This is a compilation of short works, some of which are often published as separate books. Danakelikaumudi (1549): This Bh??ik? (one-act play) was written in 1549 and narrates the danakeli (tax-collecting pastime) between Krishna and the Damsels of Vrindavan. Sri Radha-krsna-ganoddesa-dipika (1550): In this book, Rupa Goswami lists the associates of Radha and Krishna and describes their characteristics. Mathura-mahatmya (The Glories of Mathura): This book tells the glories of Mathura, in the form of a conversation between Varaha (the boar incarnation of Lord Vishnu and the Earth Goddess. Rupa Goswami explains various processes of devotional service by quoting statements from various scriptures and establishes that Mathura vanquishes all ones sinful reactions and awards piety and liberation. Uddhava-sandesa : In this work, Rupa Goswami narrates the story from the Bhagavata Purana of Krishna requesting his friend Uddhava to go to Vrindavana and pacify his friends and relations by reminding them of their pastimes with him. Hamsa-dutam : This text tells the story how Lalita, the confident of Radha, sends a messenger in the form of a swan to Krishna in Dwaraka. Sri Krsna-janma-tithi-vidhi: This short work is a manual on ritual worship (paddhati) explaining the process of worshiping the deity of Krishna during the festival of Janmastami, the birthday of Krishna celebrated by Vaishnavas in August/September. Nataka-candrika: This book explains the rules of Gaudiya Vaisnava dramaturgy. Upadesamrta : This short work contains eleven verses of instructions to aspirants on the path of devotion to Krishna. The Upadesamrta was originally a part of the Stavamala. The Upadesanmrta was translated into The Nectar of Instruction by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada.
