Stanier 8F 45170 Purchase and relocation to Boness via Glasgow. For the first time in about 50 Years a NBL locomotive will be under the Finnieston crane which may very well be the last time ever! The appeal launch for funds to secure its purchase and restoration is just awaiting the set up of the on-line donation facility. As soon as this facility is up and running a link will be posted here and on srpssteam After protracted, and at times difficult, discussions within the Society, the agreement to purchase the 8F has been concluded and arrangements are now in hand to Bring her Home, to Bo’ness via Glasgow. Arrangements are almost in place to Launch the Appeal which we are confident will raise the money required to meet the costs of purchase and set us on the way to restoration and having our own 8F running on the B&KR – and maybe elsewhere. The appeal will be launched soon and announced on social media. The trip to Bo’ness via Glasgow is aimed to get the maximum publicity for the move and for the need for funds. We hope to attract interest from the national and local press, and TV and Radio, in the 8F and the wonderful story she has to tell. She will be on display beside the Finnieston Crane outside the SECC Hydro on the 13 November from about 10am till 3pm. A date for your diary. In order to celebrate her arrival at her new home we will be having a “Welcome Home” event at Bo’ness on Saturday 15 November from 11am till 2pm, when the locomotive will be on display on the platform so that you can see her in all her glory – bumps, bruises and all. The cafe will be open for teas and coffees, there will be a chance to purchase the first bits of merchandise that have been produced and get a few photos for the album. The event is open to members – bring your membership card - There will be a platform ticket charge of £2 for non-members – waved if you buy a pint glass or mug.
