Starr Regalia, Remkes back door bosses - yep: Barbed Wire On Jurisdiction he “Not” Judges State Bar Court Judge Joann Remke has been named the new presiding judge of the State Bar Court by the California Supreme Court. The high court, which made the appointment last month, also announced that State Bar Court Hearing Judge State Bar Court Hearing Judge Patrice McElroy was reappointed. Remke Remke, 41, appointed for a six-year term, replaces Presiding Judge Ronald Stovitz, who is retiring effective Nov. 1. McElroy, 53, was named to a new six-year term starting Nov. 1. She was first appointed as a judge of the State Bar Hearing Department in November 2001. The Senate Rules Committee appointed Remke to the State Bar Court as a hearing judge in 2000 and reappointed her in 2004. She was supervising judge of the State Bar Court Hearing Department in 2004 and 2005. A graduate of the University of Illinois and McGeorge School of Law, Remke was an associate at Miller, Starr & Regalia in Oakland, a bankruptcy specialist for Providian Bancorps, a VISTA attorney in Montana, coordinator of the Fair Housing Program in Minnesota and counsel to the California Senate Judiciary Committee before joining the State Bar Court. A graduate of the University of California at Berkeley and Hastings College of the Law, McElroy was a staff attorney for the National Center for Youth Law, a San Francisco public defender, and a solo practitioner specializing in juvenile delinquency and juvenile dependency before joining the State Bar Court in 2001. The State Bar Court is the only disciplinary court in the nation that uses professional (sic) judges (sic) and often is held up as the most effective state bar court as well. Edmund Regalia In 1964, Edmund Regalia founded Miller Starr Regalia with his partners Harry Miller and Marvin Starr. He has concentrated on civil litigation for most of his 50-year legal career. As the senior litigation principal, Mr. Regalia engaged exclusively in litigation of real estate and business disputes, successfully representing clients including First American Title Insurance Company, Chicago Title Insurance Company, East Bay Municipal Utility District, County of Contra Costa, American Savings Bank, Hewlett-Packard and AKT Investments, Inc. ASSOCIATIONS In addition to helping found and lead the firm, Mr. Regalia’s work on appellate cases has resulted in numerous published decisions. Harry Daniel Miller MILLER, Harry Daniel -- 4/17/31 - 1/4/02. Died January 4, 2002. A longtime resident of Orinda and Lafayette, Harry was born and raised in Oakland, graduating from Oakland Technical High School. After graduating from UC Berkeley with a B.A. with honors in 1952, he was a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy. He then returned to Berkeley to attend Boalt Law School, graduating in 1957. The following year he was granted a Ford Fellowship to the University of Stockholm, Sweden, for graduate legal studies. Upon his return to the States, he settled in Oakland, ultimately founding the law firm of Miller, Stan & Regalia. As lead author of the treatises, Miller & Starr, Current Law of California Real Estate and Miller & Starr, California Real Estate, 2nd, 3rd and 4th editions, he was legal counsel for many real estate organizations, including the California Association of Realtors and was and Adjunct Professor of Law at the University of San Francisco Law School. He was author of the bi-monthly Miller & Starr Real Property NewsAlert from its commencement in 1991. Harry first wife of 47 years, Jean Gustafson Miller, died before Harry. Harry is survived by: A) his wife, Jina Tanimine Miller; B) his daughter and son-in-law, Kjerstin and Patrick Taylorof Orinda; C) his sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Sara Miller of Lafayette and Carl and Patti Miller of Orinda; and D) his eleven grandchildren: Philip, Robert and Kendal Taylor, Jake, Corey, Wesley and Anna Miller, and Blake, Scott, Grant and Luke Miller. He was a member of the Orinda Country Club and a founder of the former Lakeview Club in Oakland. He was a former member of the Board of Trustees of Alta Bates Hospital, Board of Directors of Associated Homebuilders of the Greater East Bay, the National Ski Patrol and numerous legal associations. Harry was an avid traveler, visiting 103 countries during his lifetime. In recent years he was the producer and host of the video series Millers Travels …. A memorial to celebrate Harrys life with his family and friends will take place on January 20, 2002, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Postino in Lafayette. Donations may be made to the Harry D.
