Start your CBSE exams with a score of 90 plus in English:CBSE class 12th exams starting from March 2 has English as its starting exam. India Today spoke to an experienced English teacher on tips to score 90 plus in CBSEs first exam. English should be prepared in the most functional manner. Students should read the lessons and be sure of theme, characters and value points. Functional English was recently named Elective English CBSE and should be treated same. The most scoring part of the paper is Section A, Section C and short questions of Section D. Archana Vyas, English teacher of St. Angela Sophia School, Jaipur provides the tips: She suggests students to attempt Section D first, Section C second, followed by Section B and A. Literature- Reading only summary guides will be harmful as the questions are based on the entire text. Students should read the poems in detail and should be aware of subject matter, theme and poetic devices employed in the poems. Grammar- Grammar should be revised. Common topics should be revised in the most natural and functional manner. Solve at least eight sample papers before the Board examination. Writing- The writing section should not be taken lightly. Students should focus on the format, value points, language and diction of different topics writing skill. They should be aware of current topics so that it will be easy to write articles, report, debate, etc. There are 50 percent marks for expression in this section. Reading- Reading section should be practiced every day. Reading in a systematic way helps to increase the efficiency of the students. It is suggested to read the questions and then read the comprehension. Notemaking should be attempted carefully. Select a definite format and follow it throughout the answer. Title should be also be selected judiciously. Passage should be divided under suitable headings and points should be written in phrases.
