Statement from Chief Harteau September 19, 2014 (MINNEAPOLIS) “On Thursday, I made a very difficult but necessary decision to cancel an appearance at a ‘community listening session.’ I want to be clear that I am more than interested in having this conversation, and many others, provided they are conducted in safe and productive environments. Community engagement is paramount to the Minneapolis Police Department. It is the reason the Chief’s Advisory Council meets regularly, to talk about that very link between our officers and the communities we serve. I am calling a non-scheduled, advisory council meeting this Wednesday as we all search for a way to move forward, continuing to have great, public community conversations. On Thursday, we introduced our 13 ‘Community Chaplains’ who will provide another great link between officers and people who live in every corner of the City. The MPD will continue to build on this momentum of connecting with the residents of Minneapolis.” ####
