Statement of Secretary Carandang on Ms. Megan Young and the Miss World Pageant: The Aquino administration joins the Filipino people in congratulating Ms. Megan Young for being crowned Miss World 2013. Over the course of the competition, Ms. Young displayed to the world the beauty, the grace, and the compassionate spirit of the Filipina, and has become a source of great pride and inspiration for the Filipino people. Our administration is especially proud of Ms. Young’s achievement, since it affirms not only her beauty and talent, but also her constant effort to be an engaged citizen of the country, even serving as one of our National Peace Ambassadors. May her triumph remind all Filipinos of what we are capable of; and may her example further emphasize the virtues of answering, in our own ways, the call to take part in the collective task of nation building.
