Steinbach/Niverville Blood Clinics Well Supported Canadian Blood Services says there has been a wonderful response in the Steinbach and Niverville areas after it issued a special plea for blood donations. Pam Mullins, Director of Donor Relations for Manitoba, says, two weeks ago, they were down to a three day supply of blood in Canada whereas their comfort zone is a five to eight day supply. Mullins adds donors came through in a big way in Steinbach Thursday and in Niverville ten days earlier. In Steinbach we had a target of 173 units that we were hoping to collect and we collected 175. Niverville was on October 7th. We were hoping to collect 96 units that day and we collected 89. She says they greatly appreciate the support. But Mullins says, despite a huge turnout at blood donor clinics here and across the country, their supplies are still lower than they should be. Were getting a little bit closer to that five day supply mark but again it can drop at a moments notice, very, very quickly, when there is urgent need in the country and so we have to maintain that supply. We are encouraging people to call the 1-888-TO-DONATE number or go online to blood.ca or that wonderful new APP, Give Blood, thats available on your iPhone or Android, and find the upcoming clinics near you. Mullins adds there is a blood donor clinic at Gabrielle Roy School in Ile des Chenes Saturday from 10am to 2 pm.
