Step 1: I admit I am powerless over my addictions and compulsive - TopicsExpress

Step 1: I admit I am powerless over my addictions and compulsive behaviors, that my life has become unmanageable. “I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out.” Romans 7:18 This first step of recovery starts with admitting we are powerless. All the people I have spoken to and counseled with about hurts, hang-ups, habits and addictions need to come to a point that they admit they are powerless over their life and issues. This is a hard thing to accomplish, especially in today’s world where we’re told we can “live life on our own terms.” We all have the desire to better ourselves and do what is good, but if you are stuck in an addiction or hurt, habit or hang-up, we need to get to that point of admitting we are powerless. Funny thing is you can humble yourself and seek out help, or your sin will be found out and you will be humiliated. It’s your choice, humiliation or humility.
