Sticking with the Thommo/Fairport link for today’s advent calendar tune and another thoroughly underrated and brilliant guitarist. Sandy Denny’s Fotheringay featuring guitarist extraordinaire Jerry Donahue and Trevor Lucas, both later to become ‘Fairports’. Lucky to see these guys (even luckier to see Nick Drake supporting them) around 1970 in Manchester and blown away by JDs guitar playing. Have since been fortunate to see/hear him play several times since out Lancashire way with his band The Gathering and non-better than the last time at Clitheroe when joined by Doug Morter of Magna Carta and the legendary Elliott Randall.
