Still thinking about Joe Cocker this morning. This first cut takes me back to my first year at John Dewey HS. You can see Leon Russell in his iconic top hat handling the keyboards here. Also in this list: His #1 record Up Where We Belong from one of my all time favorite movies: Officer and A Gentleman. A film that I use as a model for academic tough love (had to handle a few jars of mayo-naise in my teaching career). NYU Alum & Brooklyn native Lou Gossett stole that movie while winning an Oscar. Couldnt decide which version of You Are So Beautiful to post. The first is a duet he did with his Music mentor the late Ray Charles. The second is a duet with Patti LaBelle and the late BIlly Preston on Piano at the Apollo Theater. (Warning: for those who prefer to skip it Bill Cosby does a brief intro)
