Street Dances by Jay Stamataris & Noutsa Snouts Urban dances that started primarily in the U.S anywhere but dance studios from people that got inspired by life and situations that made them want to be creative in a positive way and express themselves through dance. Locking A dance that started in the late 60’s in L.A California by people that got influenced by previous Soul Steps and Funky music. It contains sharp but also funky moves and grooves. It was made famous by Don Campbell and the Lockers in the 70’s on the T.V show Soul Train. Popping A dance that started in L.A California and has its base on 70’s P-Funk music and 80’s Electro with its main characteristics the contraction of muscles, waves, robotic movement and slides. Until today it is one of the main urban dances that can be done to any music available. Bboying (Breakdance) A dance that started in 1973 at the famous Dj CoolHerc parties in the Bronx, New York from people that broke inside and wanted to go off on the dance floor and show their creativity by taking their moves from standing up to the floor creating and developing unique tricks and ideas. This dance requires good physical abilities. Hip Hop (Jamming) A party dance created by the Fly Boys and Girls after 1974 in parts of New York City. Its foundations lie in all aspects of urban life. It was popularized by members of Mop Top-Elite Force Crew in the 80’s. The most famous of all street dances around the world.
