Sufi-Buddhist Interfaith Dialogue : The World Inside and Outside Sufi Rum wrote: This universe is not outside of you Look inside yourself Everything that you want You already are Pithy, insightful, discerning, illuminating and enlightening is indeed the above Rumi’s Sufi thought. I always see Islamic Tasawwuf (Sufism) in Mahayana Buddhist Zen. Islamic Sufi marifah is Mahayana Buddhist gnosis. Mahayana Buddhist genosis is Islamic Sufi marifah. Marifah is a Sufi’s reunion of God. Gnosis is Buddhist enlightened reconnection with Buddha-nature. God and Buddha-nature refers the communal Truth of Non-duality. Human divine reunion with God (Truth ) is human entrance into the door of Non-duality. Non-duality means that mankind or the world are inherently interconnected and are non-dually one but not two. We, human beings, are always the systemic parts of the unbroken Whole of Everything. Sufi philosophy equates that God itself is the universe. The inside of mankind is human conciousness. Rumi poetry expounds that human consciousness is God while the outside universe is the image of God. The universe is the self-manifestation of God. The Hadith of Prophet Muhammad declares that whosoever know himself (knows the true nature of human consciousness) knows the Lord. We are always a systemic part of the systemic universe or God. A system thought is the systemic thought of Islamic Tawhid (Unity) or Mahayana Buddhist thought of Emptiness (Sunayata). Since the entire universe or God is Everything, every human being (you) is an integral part of Everything (the All) in the world. We have Everything(The All) when we are reconnected with God or universe. Everything is all –inclusive and nothing is exlcuded from the Whole of Everything or The All. The universal brotherhood or sisterhood is glimpsed intuitively from this mystical insight.into interconnectedness of all lives and communities. Likewise, Sakyamuni Buddha teaches that everything is mind-made (cittamatra) or consciousness-made (vijnanamatra). The human consciousness (microcosm) is the perfect image of the universe (macrocosm). The conditioned consciousness gives rise to the created or manifest mundane world outside (samsara) . The Unconditioned consciousness gives rise to the uncreated or unmanifest world of nibbana. The Buddhist Abhidhamma espouses that every plane of human consciusness gives birth a corresponding realm of existence in the existence of the external universe. Human consciousness and the universe are mutually dependently interconnected . Universe is the creation of God-head or Buddha-nature. Sufi thought and Mahayana thought of creation of the external universe necessarily interconnected with human consciousness are esoterically converging . The common ground of Sufism and Mahayana Buddhism showcases the unity of religion and unity of humanity.
