Sugar supply expected within a week, CA&PD contests news item Srinagar, September 29: Terming the news baseless carried by a local newspaper on September 27, 2014, regarding “Sugar shortage hits flood hit-J&K Govt fails to extend procurement agreement in time”, the Secretary Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution said that department has initiated the process of procurement of sugar for the period 2014-15 well in time while the tendering process was completed by September 5, 2014. He said the delay was caused as the related record was washed in ground floor of civil secretariat in the recent flood. The Secretary said that department has recovered/ reconstructed the records and has finalized the contract with one of Uttar Pradesh based firm for supply of sugar to the state and is expected to be received/dispatched to various districts of the state in week’s time.
