Summer is about preparation in the school business. We have spent the summer getting ready for next year. First we close out the previous year and then we search the world over to fill staff positions. We have planning taking place constantly. We prepare staff development opportunities and events tailored to get the new staff ready for the next year. We get the building ready and everyone comes back so motivated and inspired with the adventure in front of them. These last several days are almost in panic mode for a principal. Everything is almost ready. Counselors burn the late hour lights and getting 2000 students and their schedules ready to go with all the dynamics involved is a task not for the weak at heart….and they keep changing their minds about what they want to take. The logistics boggle the mind. I have waited patiently for my day with staff. That comes tomorrow. They are mine for a day and I pray that I do not bore the paint off the wall and that they buy into the philosophy and desires we have for them to better enable them to make a difference in the lives of students. We all need to find a Martha……we all need to walk in the shadow of Rachel…..we all need to grasp the frailty of life as we remember those we have lost since we last gathered. We are starting one Pirate short this year and it hurts to even go there. We want to honor Andie’s legacy and her love for this school. There is just so much I want to say to them and I pray for the words and the vision to lead this remarkable place. We are Wylie High School and those words resonate with me ceaselessly.
