(Summit Academy Management - Instructional Assistant- Toledo) #ToledoJobsHiring #ToledoJobs #Jobs #OhioJobs Share! :-) Share! :-) Share! :-) Share! :-) Share! :-) Share! :-) BASIC FUNCTION: Classes at Summit Academy Community Schools typically consist of eighteen students with a teacher and an Instructional Assistant. The primary role of the teacher is to teach the curriculum to the students; however, he/she is ultimately responsible for the activities and behaviors of the entire class. Conversely, the role of the Instructional Assistant is primarily to manage the social skills and behaviors of the students. The Instructional Assistant intercepts negative behaviors, initiates warnings or time-outs, performs social autopsies, and removes children from the classroom when absolutely necessary. The Instructional Assistant also teaches the social skills curriculum during a regularly scheduled class. When the Instructional Assistant is not engaged in behavior management, he/she works as a teacher’s aide, assisting with lesson delivery, managing materials, and tutoring individuals or groups of children. EMPLOYMENT MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Two (2) years of study at an institution of higher education (48 semester or 72 quarter hours), an associate degree or higher from an accredited institution of higher education, or passing the Praxis II test for Paraprofessionals Obtain and maintain Educational Aide permit though Ohio Department of Education Ability to work with children who have special needs Ability to work with people Appropriate criminal records check by the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification and Investigation and/or Federal Bureau of Investigation Meets all health requirements as mandated by law Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with all employees RESPONSIBILITIES: Model appropriate behaviors for students such as: patience, persistence, and self-control Supervise students during transition time, lunch recess, bus duty, dismissal, assemblies, field trips, speakers Responsible for de-escalating student negative behaviors, using a variety of methods depending upon the needs of the individual student Must be able to prevent negative behaviors by anticipating problems and keeping students on task Maintain observation records as directed by teachers/administration. Track student behavior Provide accurate and timely information as requested by teacher/administration Report dangerous behaviors/environments to school director or administration immediately Report any suspicion of child abuse and neglect through proper channels.
