Sunday 1st June; we were delighted to be invited to the Grand Opening of the P & A Wood new Rolls Royce Showroom & Coachwork Department, the event also was a celebration of their 50 years in business. The event was invitation only and many of the 2000 invited special guests were there to help Paul and Andy Wood mark the occasion. Guests enjoyed a relaxed ‘open all areas’ afternoon at the Wood’s Great Dunmow premises, including – engineering & machine workshops, classic car showroom, new coachwork department and car showrooms. Complimentary refreshments were provided along with a music soundtrack that perfectly suited the summer ‘garden party’ atmosphere. This remarkable occasion included a magnificent parade of a selection of some the cars owned and prepared by P & A Wood over the last half century including many concours winning cars – BDC and Pebble Beach! The air was filled with the sounds of aero engines too, as demonstrations of the static Merlin and 1918 Le Rhone aero engines were given, the day closed with a spectacular air display including; Tiger Moths, Cessna 195, and a Spitfire. For those wanting to stay on the ground there were rides out in classic and new Rolls Royce and Bentley motor cars, displays of the Woods personal car and bike collections. Those with money to spend were well catered for with both cars for sale from all decades and the newly opened ‘Shop at P & A Wood’. And thank you to those guests who came and spent time and money with the BDC in our shop buying Club memorabilia or new memberships – welcome. The master of ceremonies for the official opening, including cutting a ribbon stretched between two of the latest Rolls models, was the well- known car (ginger) nut - Chris Evans. Here’s to the next 50 years!
