Sunday Morning Musings: It’s one of those weeks when no - TopicsExpress

Sunday Morning Musings: It’s one of those weeks when no particular topic has come to the forefront for me to write about for my Sunday musings. My life this week has been equal parts mundane and glorious. Actually, I’m kidding about the glorious part. On this Labor Day weekend, I’ve done my part to hold up the banner for those who labor to keep this world moving forward. I’ve dutifully awakened before the roosters begin crowing, shuffled my creaking joints to the kitchen to have a bowl of Cheerios, showered and put on my deoderant, driven my 21 miles to work while listening to “Mike and Mike in the Morning“, dropped by Starbucks to get my iced green tea to start the day, finally pulling into the parking lot of Aircraft Tooling, taking my usual parking spot in the field next door under the shade tree, so that my steering wheel and dashboard won’t melt in the 666 degree temperature that we endure in Hell, I mean Texas. So on this weekend of commemorating the Labor movement, I salute ME, and those like me, hardworking folks who aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty, in the neverending quest to eat three squares a day, while eking out what some have called “a living”. All things considered though, eking out a living sure beats the alternative, doesn’t it? Because if we can muster three squares a day, we have the wonderful opportunity of seeing the glass half full, that regardless of our external circumstances, if those circumstances should bring clouds instead of sunshine, we can look for those silver linings that are always there, just beneath the surface of clouds that may otherwise try tricking our minds into believing there is no sun shining upon our lives. I wonder how many of us throughout our lives have felt our workday routine to be a drudgery? At times, we’ll bemoan stormy Mondays, while jumping and spinning like Snoopy when Friday arrives. But if we’re up and moving on Monday mornings, with our minds and bodies still alive, those Mondays could be celebrated as much as Fridays are, couldn’t they? Isn’t every day a celebration of another day of living? So this weekend, let’s celebrate, first of all celebrating that we are still among the living, that the glass is half full, and when counting our blessings, in commemoration of the holiday, let’s take a moment to realize the value of workers who make our lives what they are. Let’s embrace those around us, let’s smile and say a kind word to those who may be expending energy, in order to improve the quality of our lives. For example, instead of just letting the sanitation workers drive down the street and empty our garbage cans, what if we waved and said hello to them, perhaps we could ask them if they would like a bottled water or something, making their moment just a little easier, letting them know that we value their lives, that we appreciate them and what they’re doing for us. For who knows what difference an encouraging word and kind gesture could make in someone’s life? And speaking of encouraging words and kind gestures making a difference in our lives, each Labor Day going forward will now be an anniversary of a life changing event which took place in my life on Labor Day 2013. That was the first day a whole new world and a new community opened unto me, a world in which the quality of my life began rebounding from the physical pain of the past. It was on that day that Jenny Parum had her grand opening of The Yoga Movement, the first day I ever tried the practice of yoga. So on Monday, Laura and I will be at the yoga studio, popping the cork to sip champagne, with those we now feel an endearing love for, those who have become an integral part of our existence. Jenny Parum, Shelley Cook, Elizabeth Pierce, and although Emilee Bowen will be in Austin, she‘ll be in our hearts and with us in spirit. When we went to yoga on Thursday evening with Emilee, given that I had missed 10 days of yoga due to caring for my Mom in the hospital and the nursing home, I was expecting that my body would not be at quite the same place, as far as what I would be able to do in the vinyasa. I was astonished however, to begin picking right up where I had left off, to realize that in only one year’s time of doing yoga, my body truly is being remade from the inside out. Apparently my core is becoming alive, and although I may miss a few days of my routine, my body is ready and waiting for me to challenge it afresh and anew. So to Jenny Parum, I wish you a Happy Anniversary on the realization of your dream. I thank you once again for changing the world one person at a time, for being there for us, for me. You’re amazing, you wear Superwoman‘s cape, what more can I say, other than to say, you are loved by many, by us, by me! And to a few of the other young ladies who have become difference makers in my life personally, I also wish to convey a few feelings. Shelley Cook, you might just be one of the few, if not only, people I know who are into the Hare Krishna scene. What I wish to say to you is, although I may not necessarily delve too deeply into the Bhagavad Gita, or who knows, maybe one day I will, but either way, I want you to know that you are one of the most gentle souls I have ever met. Your quiet spirit, your gentle demeanor, and your commitment to promoting peace, joy, and happiness in the world, is just one of the most spiritual and sweet approaches to living that I have ever witnessed. Your Dharma approach to yoga, combined with your sweetness of spirit, has had such a calming influence upon my life. Shanti to you Shelley, shanti, shanti, shanti! Emilee Bowen, my little drill sergeant, you are a very powerful young lady indeed. As they say, powerful things can come in small packages, and you are a dynamo, of physicality, with strength of mind, body, and spirit. Your muscular approach to yoga has challenged me, inspired me, to dig deeper, to rise higher, to twist just a little more, to challenge my body to go places that it has never gone before. You’ve inspired me, moved me, changed me. Don’t ever doubt the change you are making in this world. You belong young lady, you belong! Oh, and the wax on, wax off, let’s not forget about the regenerating potential of wax on, wax off! Elizabeth Pierce, although you are primarily leading daytime classes when I am at work, it has been my joy and privilege to have crossed paths with you on a couple of occasions. Please know that if circumstances were such that I could avail myself of your leadership on an ongoing basis, I would be with you every week. You’re also great, also inspirational, and know that both Laura and I appreciate what you’ve done for us more than mere words can convey! We believe in you Elizabeth! So Jenny, Shelley, Emilee, Elizabeth, and the rest of The Yoga Movement community, on this anniversary weekend, I say Namaste, for my soul bows to the divine within each of you. My soul celebrates your soul, your goodness, and the light within each of you which has shone upon my path! Happy Labor Day weekend everyone, let us seek to make every day, and every person, a cause for celebration, how about it?
