Sunday Morning Re-run...Picking out Pop..... the photo of me was the first Pop ever took of me..... later on the day of this story! The day started off like every day, but little did I know at the time that it would be very different. Me and Lil Bit were plotting an attack on Big Boy, my other two sisters were sleeping in and my brothers were wrastling. We were all still wondering where Mama had gone, and when she was coming back. Mr. Harvey had come by the day before and brought my Daddy, Hank to meet us. Daddy nosed us all, rolled us around and we had a big ole time. Mama sure was glad to see him. Lil Bit was scared of Daddy at first, but when she saw me and the rest of us Wees climbing all over him, she warmed up to him. It didn’t take long to see that she was his favorite. After a while, Mr. Harvey, Mama, and Daddy, loaded up in his truck and left. Last night was our first night without Mama. At first we were scared and confused, but Miss Donna spent some extra time with us and we eventually piled up on top of each other and went to sleep. Big Boy wants to act so tough all the time, but I could tell he was really confused about what was happening, so me and Lil Bit snuggled up on both sides of him for the night. We knew Ms Donna was not going to let anything bad happen to us. After breakfast, we had our daily banter with the Lab Wees, and Ms. Donna was working on her flower garden, when we had a visitor. We have a lot of Ms. Donna’s friends come by to see us and the Lab Wees, but this was the first time she separated all of us Wee Girlkins from our brothers. We were out in the front yard under the oak tree with Ms. Donna and this new stranger, sitting on the ground playing with us. Of course Lil Bit was doing all she could to get in Ms. Donna’s Lap. She is such an affectionate Wee. Now one of my sisters had taken a liking to this new stranger, but I was getting s stirring deep inside of me that he was different from our previous visitors. It is hard to explain, but I didn’t particularly like all the attention my sisters were getting, so I did what any self respecting Wee would do…..grab his pant leg, growl and pull. When he picked me up and held me I knew I had found me a friend. It was like we were kindred spirits. I can’t explain it, but I knew this was going to be my Human. So I decided to adopt him. It was like Ms. Donna could read my mind. She told this man if he wanted the alpha female, then I was the wee for him. Little did she know I had already made that decision, and he didn’t really have a choice in the matter. My human, (I named him Pop) picked me up and we went into the house where he gave Ms. Donna some paper, she gave him some paper, and then she gave me a quick trim of my toe nails. Then Pop took me to say good-bye to my Brothers and sisters. That was a sad time to me. I really love all my brothers and sisters, and I knew I was gonna’ miss Lil Bit and Big boy.. Although he has been a major pain in my butt, Big Boy told me not to worry. This was our destiny…it was meant to be, and he promised he would look after Lil Bit, until she and he picked out their Humans. I said my good-byes and with a lump in my throat, me and Pop headed to his truck. Now Pop’s truck had this box between the front seats (I think he calls it a console). Pop had taken the top off the box, and there was a bed made in it that smelled just like him. This truck made noises I wasn’t use to and it scared me at first, but Pop put his hand on me and told me everything would be OK. Not far up the road from my birth home and Ms. Donna’s house is a small, country church. We passed it, but Pop turned around and went back. We got out and walked around a bit and as I was exploring pooping, and peeing, Pop sat on the steps of the Church and started talking. I knew he wasn’t talking to me, by the tone of his voice, but I didn’t see anyone else around. I went to Pop, did my best to get up the steps and climbed in his lap. I know now that Pop was finally, after a year, letting go of my Aunt Flip, who had gone to the Rainbow Bridge. He held me close, and kept talking to whom ever. I noticed his eyes were leaking. I thought Pop was sad until I looked up into his wet eyes and saw what I had seen many times from Ms. Donna…..LOVE… and the biggest smile I had ever seen.
