Sunday, a day of rest! Christmas came early this morning at the International Central Gospel Church, Accra. Over two thousand people sang the opening hymn O come all he faithful. The sound was mind blowing. It was a little surreal to walk out into the blazing heat to the accompaniment of Silent Night. After lunch we went to the second of our stores, presently housing the items shipped out in the container. It was like a scene from some comedy programme where they open the door and the stuff has been packed in, or rather just thrown in until no more would fit in, so that when the door opens it all tumbles out on top of the poor unsuspected person opening it. Bags upon bags of IKEA bags filled with clothing hid stacks of chairs and just about everything else. Our mission was to find the adapted buggy ready for distribution tomorrow and to get 120 chairs out. I cant say it was easy, but we did it! The 120 chairs went off on the back of a flatbed lorry to their destination; a new school near Amasaman. Tomorrow the plan is to distribute the wheelchairs. I say thats the plan as it was also the plan yesterday! Its a case of it happens when it happens. What I do hope happens is a good nights sleep. Once again last night we had light off and the generator wasnt working either. By 4am the early morning prayers over a mega phone had started, the car horns had started beeping and the cockerel and a dog were in competition on who could make the most noise. Light out seems to be happening more frequently, the impact not just a lack of sleep for those of us who cant stand the heat, but no refrigeration also. Everyone says things are getting harder. And we moan if the power back home is cut off for a short period during a thunderstorm! Its everyday life here and its not just for a short period. Since I arrived Friday its been 24 hours at least. Makes you think again about what we take for granted.
