Sunday morning: I think that those that are reading my updates know that Im a nurse. I guess I should also tell you so you know where my perspective comes from that I work at hospital where we often have patients like Terry, those whove had strokes or brain trauma and require extended medical care such as trachs, vents, and peg tubes before they can go to rehab or whatever the next step may be. My mom knows that and looks to me for my thoughts about whats going on. Thats made the last few days difficult for me as Ive watched things unfold. I know very well how long things can take and Im well aware of the range of outcomes and setbacks that can happen along the way. Please dont be upset with the doctors and nurses that have given us the worst case scenarios. They/we dont delight in giving bad news. I appreciate their honesty so much and that the responsibility of telling my mom what could happen hasnt been left to me alone. Its not a lack of faith. Its being able to have the knowledge to accept what Gods will might be and move forward in faith. Terry didnt have a good night. My mom called me at 2:45 AM and we texted back and forth for almost the next 2 hours. Terrys nurse came to get her from the ICU waiting area where shes been sleeping and the ICU doctor was in his room. His temp was 104.7, blood pressure elevated, heart rate elevated, and his breathing was more rapid even on the vent. They did a chest x ray and blood cultures and put him back on IV sedation. Hes had more Tylenol and ice packs. His blood pressure then eventually decreased to 80s/90s. Things eventually settled down but hes still having high fevers around 103. God often wills what he despises, because he has two lenses. You can trust him today that your painful trial is part of a pattern. One day you too will put on that wide-angle lens.
