Sunday song of the day: Give Up The Funk (Tear The Roof Off The Sucker) by Parliament. Originally a doo-wop group called The Parliaments, formed by George Clinton in the late 1950s. For a time in the late 1960s, Clinton could not use the band name The Parliaments name due to legal issues with his record label, so he simply used the same band with a new name Funkadelic, and signed with a different label. In 1970, he regained the rights to the original band name, but then called the band simply Parliament. Both Parliament and Funkadelic toured and recorded, although both bands had the same members. In general, Parliament made more straight-ahead funk, while Funkadelic made more experimental music, fusing guitar-driven rock with soul and funk. By 1981, both Parliament and Funkadelic were dissolved, although many of the members still worked with Clinton, both as support for his solo work and as a band called The P-Funk All-Stars. Give Up The Funk is from the 1976 album Mothership Connection. youtube/watch?v=ImI78s638hQ Tomorrow: Hearts torn in every way.
