Tomorrow Scotland is going to vote on independence in what will - TopicsExpress

Tomorrow Scotland is going to vote on independence in what will probably be the most significant vote of this generation. The union of Scotland, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, has achieved incredible things; both at home and around the world. As a United Kingdom, we have benefited from the diversity of heritage and culture that exists throughout our nation. We have benefited from the diversity of economy that exists throughout our nation. And we have benefited from a shared sense commitment to supporting each other, nationally and individually. Every part of the United Kingdom has, in their own way, helped to shape the country that we live in today. I am immensely proud of the country that we live in and feel hugely privileged to be part of it. Our model of individual nations united in their similarities, open in their opportunities, and in celebration of their differences and unique histories, is one that is particularly striking against the backdrop of the world around us. In a world torn by differences - the conflict in Gaza, the rise of Isis, the lingering caste system in India, the separation of North and South Korea, to name a few - in the United Kingdom we have an example of how political, economic, and cultural values can come together in a successful partnership. I fully believe in the autonomy of the Scottish Parliament, backed by the enduring strength of our union, and built on the values that have made us who we are today. When I vote no tomorrow, despite the many economic and pragmatic issues, it is not because of a lack of faith in Scotland to operate as an independent nation. It is not because I am a supporter of the Tory government, I neither agree or disagree fully with the policies of either the UK or Scottish governments. I will vote no because I believe that Scotlands inclusion as part of the union strengthens not only the Scottish nation, but also the United Kingdom as a whole. I implore you, let us not tear apart the most successful partnership in history. Let us not send a message to the world that separation and segregation is better than togetherness. Instead, let us embrace the many opportunities that we have as part of the union; and let us work together across the entire nation, Scotland, England, Wales, and Northern Ireland, to built a better and fairer Scotland as part of a stronger United Kingdom.
