Supermom Day #3: Conversation between myself and son: Nick watching TV: Mom? Mom: Yeah? Nick: The chicken coop is flooded. Mom: What do you mean, flooded? Nick: There’s 2” of water in the bottom of it. Mom: Where is the water coming from? Nick: I dont know Mom: Did you look? Nick: No. That’s why I’m telling you about it. Mom: Theres 2 of water in the bottom of the chicken coop on a 70 degree sunny day in the middle of a drought, and youre not even a little curious about where it might be coming from? Honestly, I did not want to hear that there is 2” of water in the bottom of the chicken coop. It appears that I have been lulled into a false sense of complacency over the past few days, but now I see the master plan. Instead of the house falling down, the accessory structures are going to cave. Starting with the chicken coop. I head down to the chicken coop with trepidation. I’m also mentally refreshing in my head what Sdad told me before leaving about turning off the water for the barn. I remember that its different than the house. And thats pretty much all I remember. I think I can. I think I can. I think I can. Yep; theres 2” of water in the chicken coop. The chicken’s waterer is obviously knocked off it’s base - allowing water to dribble continuously onto the floor. I fixed it. All by myself! Conversation #2: Mom: Nick, how long has it been since you washed your sheets? Nick: Hmm. A long time? Mom: More or less than three months? Nick: I’d say more. Mom: Do you think that’s a problem? Nick: Yeah. Probably. Mom: Do you want to wash your sheets? Nick? Yeah. Mom: Maybe…now? Nick: Yeah. Ok then. Sheets are in the washer. Why has my son, who usually talks non stop, been struck inarticulate? Regardless, its been a good day so far. House is tidied up. Dogs are trained and exercised. Academy in good shape. Kids off the TV. Black wednesday sale underway, and I’m ready for the evening and my drink after a quick trip to the Post office. All is well. And. The house is still standing!
