Suspect Shot While Trying to Steal Police Car Pacific- a suspect was shot by a Pacific police officer late last night after the suspect, who was driving a stolen vehicle, led the officer on a vehicle pursuit then ran from the stolen car while the officer chased him. The suspect circled back and jumped into the police car attempting to drive away as the officer struggled to get the suspect out of the car. The incident started Thursday night around 10:40pm. The officer attempted to stop a vehicle that was reported stolen. The suspect failed to stop and led the officer on a pursuit through a residential neighborhood, driving over lawns as he fled. The suspect drove the stolen truck into the driveway of a house in the 200 block of Sunset Dr. The suspect exited the stolen truck and fled on foot. The officer, who was directly behind the suspect vehicle, also exited his car and chased the suspect on foot. The suspect circled around a house at the location and then jumped into the running patrol car and attempted to flee in the vehicle. The officer tried to stop the driver and a struggle ensued as the suspect was trying to drive away. The officer fired multiple shots and struck the suspect. During the incident the police car crashed into a Hummer which was parked in the driveway of a house across the street. The Hummer was pushed into the garage door and part way into the garage of the house. The suspect, a 41 year old man from Quilcene, was taken to Harborview in critical condition and is expected to survive. The officer, a 6 year veteran of the Pacific Police Department was not injured in the incident. Detectives learned the truck had been stolen from Port Townsend on Wednesday. The King County Investigative Response Team (K.C.I.R.T.) is investigating the shooting.
