TBT-Forty Years ago! 9/23-28/74 We pulled into Hawaii for one night on the 23rd and evidently from my journal I had a LARGE time. So much so that I lost my only set of glasses. Turns out there was this piano bar and we all had us a little sing-a-long. I DO like to sing, however badly. I received a book from Vivitar on “How to Photograph Auto Racing”. I must have learned something because the better part of 10+ years from ’74 or so onwards to the mid ‘90s I either worked full time as a photojournalist, or supplemented my income as a photographer, primarily on the IMSA circuit. Most of this time at sea was spent trying to get off the boat so I could get new glasses. Face it, you do not need to see too well to wash dishes. You DO however need them to see and guage your step through bulkheads. Seems I failed that test one day. The shin paid the price… I did manage a trip up to the ready room to show some of my slides to the assembled multitude. I guess the only thing of note topside is that one of our birds got towed into one of the Bounty Hunters F-14s and speared the radome. Next TBT we head back into Pearl for some real liberty!!!
