TC Karina began as tropical depression late in the day yesterday and has already strengthened into a tropical storm today. Steady intensification is expected and Karina is forecast to reach a category 1 hurricane within the next 48 hours, with additional strengthening forecast through 72-96 hours. TC Julio is currently a Category 1 hurricane, however should remain in the open ocean away from land areas. Open ocean vessels should continue to steer clear. A tropical disturbance is located far west in the eastern Pacific will soon cross the 140W line of longitude into the central Pacific. NHC is giving it a medium chance of developing over the next two days, then an even a higher 70% chance for development over the next five days. This disturbance doesn’t currently pose any threat to land, and the Hawaiian Islands are located far to the west-northwest. Another disturbance in the central Pacific has a low 10% chance of developing within the next two days. It’s located some 900 miles southeast of the Big Island. Development if any, is expected to be slow to occur.
