TEP, The Experimental Theatre of Porto celebrates next Tuesday, June 18, at 9:30 pm, in the Municipal Auditorium of Gaia, sixty years of regular performances. This respectable age was never reached by a professional theatre company in Portugal. Dean of Portuguese theatre companies, TEP changed theatre practice in our country, with António Pedro, who introduced the concept of modern stage direction and sense of unity of the show. With a long history of six decades, with some unforgettable performances that make the memory of Portuguese Theatre, is currently in a phase of major renovation under the guidance of the current artistic director, Gonçalo Amorim. Sixty years ago, on June 18, 1953, under the direction of António Pedro, the curtain rose for the first show at Teatro Sá da Bandeira, Porto, consisting of three one-act plays: "A Drop of Honey" by Léon Chancerel, "The Ship Catrineta" Egypt Gonçalves, and "A marriage Proposal " Anton Tcheckov. The cast of the first play was: Egito Gonçalves, Dulce Pessoa, Luís Nascimento, João Guedes, Baptista Fernandes, Cremilda Vasconcelos, Amelia Varejão and Maria Marcelina Morais. The second play was performed by Dalila Rocha, Natércia Pimentel, Manuela Delgado, Amadeu Meireles, Alexandre Babo, Julia Babo, António Maria da Silva, Américo Pessoa and Correia Alves. Tcheckov’s play had as actors: Dalila Rocha, Alves Correia and João Guedes. In this Commemorative session there are three moments: 1 - Statement from the President of the Board of CCT / TEP, evocative of the 60 years of the professional company. 2 - Tribute to its Honorary Members, appointed by the General Assembly of the CCT / TEP: sculptor Carlos Barreira, bookseller Fernando Fernandes, editor José da Cruz Santos and Dr Rui Figueiredo. 3 - Premiere of the documentary film "Vidal Valente," directed by Gonçalo Amorim and Maria Joana Figueiredo. Through the life of this unrelenting figure of TEP, who has been in the company since 1959, as the prompt, stage manager, prop master, caretaker and is, even today, at 82, an employee of our action, the film runs through the memories that intersect with those of the institution these six decades. The film will be presented by Gonçalo Amorim, currently artistic director of TEP. We will be very honoured by the presence at this session of the founding actress of TEP Natércia Pimentel, living in France. In this Commemorative Session, recalling the past, we will lay out some of our plans for the future.
