TEXT OF PRESS RELEASE DELIVERED BY COMRADE OLATINWO JEREMIAH, PUBLIC RELATIONS OFFICER, NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF NIGERIAN STUDENTS, SOUTHWEST NIGERIA ZONE (AKA ZONE D) ON THE 26TH NOVEMBER, 2014 & OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT GOODLUCK JONATHAN On behalf of over 20 million students in the Southwest Region of this great country, I congratulate President Goodluck Jonathan on the recent election of one of his aides, the Honourable Minister of Petroleum, Mrs. Dieziani Allison-Madueke as the 166th President of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC). By this election, we are convinced that she has distinguished herself and performed meritoriously during her tenure as the Alternate President which culminated in the delegates of the 166th conference reposing their confidence in her for the next one year. We hail her for this feat as she stands tall as an amazon and a worthy role model to her female folks. We hereby wish to use this medium to urge her to use her office as the President to lead the swing producers forum to save the world from the slump in crude oil prices as her home country, Nigeria, is worst hit as our economists at the CBN and Ministry of Finance werent intelligent enough to foresee the bearish trend as they are too busy dividing the spoil from the baseless #65 Interbank ATM withdrawal and misleading the public with surreal reports of economic development. The earlier they plunge into action (with regards to austerity measures to cushion the effect of the sharp drop in the crude oil), the better for the Nigerian masses as the student community will not submit to the harsh and unfriendly austerity measures reeled out by the Federal Government which is filled with promises of untold hardship for the Nigerian people. Another reduction in the subsidy in the petroleum sector will be greeted with a mega-affirmative action in which students from across the nation will occupy major cities of this nation, halt economic activities across the nation and call the attention of the world to the incompetence of the Federal government in sustaining and managing a prosperous nation blessed with a wide array of mineral resources that could be tapped and explored. Taking a cue from an African proverb What an elder sees while sitting down, a child cannot see even if he climbs the tallest Iroko tree; we also urge the Presidency and the National Executive Council to pay attention to the sagacious warnings of former President Olusegun Obasanjo whose recent caution lights are pointing our attention to a derailing economy that needs urgent reparation. The Presidencys skillfulness in the use of PR shouldnt erode their sense of reasoning. He who the father loves, He reproves! Permit me to end this piece with the second stanza of our National Anthem O God of all creation Direct our noble cause Guide our leaders right Help our youth the truth to know In love and honesty to grow And living just and true Great lofty heights attain To build a nation where peace And justice shall reign. God bless NANS God bless the Southwest Region God bless Nigeria Yours in the quest for emancipation, transformation and a better Nigeria Comrade Jeremiah Olatinwo NANS ZONE D PRO 08077888285, 08166859917 Aluta COntinua, Victoria Ascerta
