Times and Transcript Dec 12, 2014 The lobby of Moncton City Hall was packed at lunchtime on Friday as the Atlantic Maple Leaf organization announced special plans for Remembrance Day 2015. To be held in Moncton on November 10 and 11, 2015, the Atlantic Maple Leaf Lest We Forget – N’oublions jamais event will take place at the Moncton Coliseum Agrena. The gala dinner will include a variety of historic military displays, restored military vehicles and live historic vignettes. The event “seeks to highlight the proud history of service by the citizens of New Brunswick. It’s hard to find a family here in our province who doesn’t have someone who has served in the Forces: a grandfather, aunt, brother or cousin,” said chairwoman Elisabeth Rybak. “It’s important we keep the memories of their contribution alive and this event will help do just that.” The 2015 event marks the 4th Atlantic Maple Leaf Military Tribute event to take place in Atlantic Canada. Previous events have been held in Fredericton, Halifax and St. John’s, and have raised almost $2 million through the generosity of sponsors. Charities supported at the event will include the Cadet youth program, the Military Families Fund, and programs which preserve our military heritage. Brigadier-General Michael Pearson (Ret’d), deputy chief of staff to Premier Brian Gallant, brought greetings on behalf of Gallant and Colonel Jim Goodman, Base Commander, CFB Gagetown. Goodman cancelled because the death of a soldier on the base this week. Moncton Mayor George LeBlanc was also on hand for the launch of the event. “Here in Moncton, we have a very heightened sense of the importance of those who protect us,” LeBlanc said. “The people of Moncton have a great pride in our Canadian soldiers and all those who choose to serve.” Dr. Lee Windsor of the Gregg Centre for Conflict Studies at the University of New Brunswick spoke of the province’s proud and long military traditions going back to colonial times, and noted some of Canada’s oldest military units hail from New Brunswick. The organizing committee is seeking the support of corporate sponsors and community partnerships. Tables at the Tribute Gala Dinner are now available for $2,500 and include a veteran hosting opportunity.
