THE ARREST AND DETENTION OF A MASQUERADE A Divisional Officer (D.O.) ordered the arrest and detention a masquerade during the Wimbum Annual Cultural Festival Organised in Nsongkolong of the Bankim Sub Division in the Adamawa Region – Cameroon. The masquerade was accused to have, during its display, blocked the way as the D.O. was driving to the ceremonial ground. Questions: -Who takes the blame? -The man inside the masquerade or the masquerade? -Has the D.O. has the right to arrest a cultural instrument like the masquerade? -Is the D.O. completely out of touch with cultural realities -Has the D.O. overstepped his bounds in the use of powers bestowed on him?
