THE AUBURN FOOD BANK 2014 AGENCY REPORT Tax Break!!? I can get a tax break? You can! Donating by December 31st through our web site Donate for Good portal, sending a check, dropping off cash, coming by and we swipe your credit card – but whatever means is best for you – your giving will give you a tax break! Your gift – means so much more to us than just a gift of money. Your gift supports the neediest of families is the most tragic time of their life: a time when they have to ask and depend on strangers for food. Can you do that? Can you ask? We talk with our families every day – and here is what we often hear: I hate to ask…” “just until I can get back on my feet…” “I only ask when I’m desperate...” “Others need it more than me, but this time….” We all want to support and take care of ourselves and our families so when we have to ask we have just lost some self esteem. Weve just admitted to ourselves and the world that “I can’t take care of anything!” This may not be true in reality – but it is what plays through a person’s mind that has to ask. It’s not fun, not easy, not cool and not the latest and greatest thing to do. YOU – the donor – can make all the difference in the world to our families. Your gift changes so much. Food is our most basic gift. We continue to meet the ever increasing needs of those coming through our door. Stats for comparison: Households in 2012: 29094 // Individuals: 117203 2013: 31276 // 127471 To-date with 3 ½ weeks to go: 2014: 29558 // 116644 The only way this is possible --- for the need to increase and the service to continue – is YOU. Financial assistance is for those who need power and rent assistance and some limited emergency prescription. We can help a family one time a year. We are averaging 27 families a month who receive assistance. We turn away so many more….we don’t count, it would hurt to know. $300.00 keeps a family in their home for the month – and is usually all that is needed to keep them from homelessness. $300 can usually keep a families power on for 2 months. $25.00 is the usual request for emergency prescription needs. Occasionally a tank of gas will keep a person working until their next paycheck when they can make it on their own. The only way we can make this happen is with YOU. In the last 3 months --- 3 separate incidents were “cured” with just $100.00. I told you about a man wanting to get to California where there was work and family. Another similar situation came up for a man to get to Montana. And this week: a homeless couple, he is disabled in a wheelchair living on the streets for 2 years, got a call from home asking him to “come home.” Each one: just $100.00 per situation -- solved all three problems. YOU made this happen. This food bank staff were merely the messenger from your heart to theirs. Thank you for making a difference! Keep up the good work – we need you!
