THE EDUCATION SYSTEM IN NIGERIA There is a popular saying that education is the key, key to good life, key to self realization, key to national growth, key for reducing poverty and key for reducing crime rate in any given society, then if this is the truth, Nigeria is very far away from growth and development. The leadership in Nigeria is doing everything humanly possible to discourage the common man from going to school, education to them is for the political and wealthy class. The question I want to ask is this: is there no regulatory body for education sector in Nigeria? why must private operators fix school fees as they like? why must the few functional government school be for the political and rich class in our society? Today a woman took her 3 years kid to a privately run school in Lagos and she was asked to pay one hundred and twenty thousand Naira(N120,000) for just kindergarten, then I asked myself if for only one term a kid will pay such amount of money, how much must his parent receive at their working place, pay house rent, feed the children and then be able to keep paying for his school fees? When transparency international rated Nigeria as one of the most corrupt nations in the world, most people did not understand why. Nigeria is the only place religion is allowed as a means of deceiving people, a church that is preaching heavenly race, that is telling people that rapture will take place any moment, that collected money from people in the form of project offering, tithes and sowing seed , to build a school and then turn around to charge exorbitant school fees and yet the Federal government sees nothing wrong in what they are doing since they are birds of the same feather. Nigerian child must have right to sound education and if this must happen then it is time for the government of the day to wake up and regulate both government and privately owned schools and make the school fees affordable to every common man in our society, if not we are only sowing evil seed and when the time comes, we must reap as we have sowed. Long Live Nigeria.
