THE OBJECT OF FAITH Romans 3:31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law. Romans 3:27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. By faith we may understand four things. Firstly, The object of faith. Secondly, The doctrines or faith. Thirdly, The grace of faith. And, Fourthly, The life of faith. THE OBJECT OF FAITH The unity of the divine essence is the grand object of faith, there is one God.?Hear, O Israel! the Lord thy God is one Lord. A plurality of persons in the unity of the godhead, is an object of faith also.?There are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost, and these three are one, 1 John, v. 7. The nearest person to our faith is the Saviour;?for it is by him that we believe in God, 1 Peter, i. 21. And again, Ye believe in God, believe also in me, as the way to him. As we are baptized in the name of the Holy Ghost, as well as in the name of the Father and the Son, Mark xvi. 16; so are we blessed in the name of the Holy Ghost, as well as in the name of the Father and the Son; The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Ghost, be with you all. The distinct personality, and essential divinity of the Holy Ghost, is clearly asserted in the Book of God, and therefore the plurality of persons in the Godhead must be credited and acknowledged by every real believer, as the object of faith; there is no coming to the full assurance of understanding, until we acknowledge the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ, Col. ii. 2. -- By William Huntington. Vol. 3. The Law Established by the Faith of Christ Series.
