Aaron and Jim Coffiey of Gale Force Charters had Brian Smith and his friends Mike and Jack out last week. They got into a short rockfish bite and caught a 20 and a 15 pounder. >> Steve Halstead (De Fly Angler Club member), had 3 blues on a fly up to 26. Many were schooled at the cape flats around noon. He used olive/white and olive/brown fly. >>John Green, Millersville, MD, caught a citation 31.7#, 44 striper at IRI on a bucktail. >>Mark Adams sent this to us today: Hey Guys! 9.14#, tog out of Ocean City aboard the Morningstar . Tight lines! >>A customer was telling us of a sea bass trip to the Washingtonian where he boated 45 fish with only 6 keepers. >>Dave Furio sent us a picture of a 34 , 16# striper that he caught in the surf! Great job Dave! >>Cass Hans, Lewes, caught a 2.66#, 21 flounder on minnows in the Canal. >>Rich Kania nailed his limit of blues 15 and 28 on the incoming tide with bucktails with rubber at the Coast Guard Station. >>Hank Hammond used an electric chicken jig for 2 blues up to 18 and 2 short stripers at the Broadkill River side of Plum Island on the outgoing tide. >>Lindsay Hertz, Upland, Pa, caught a 30 , 8.5# linesider at IRI on a bucktail. >>Holly Albanos and her dad, Charlie, enjoyed a day of fishing on the surf at Prime Hook and caught croaker and a sandbar shark using mullet and clam. >>Colby Simms, Akron, PA, fishing with minnows, caught an 18 , 2.2# flounder in the Canal. >>William Koder III wrote to us: This is Brians first rock at 31.5 caught at the Cape. >>Terry Kempski caught a 23 bluefish at Herring Point on cut bunker. >>Bill Cizek, Allentown, PA, was fishing off the beach at Broadkill with a light rod and reel and hooked into a 41# drum which took an hour to land and smoked his combo in the process; but the happy angler said it was worth it.... >>Dave Hertz and daughter Lindsey, Upland, PA, caught a 15.45#, 30.25 striper on a bucktail at IRI. >>Rob Kriner stopped in and showed us a picture of his 80+# drum he caught yesterday at the Coral Beds. >>Judy Mangini spent some time crabbing and fishing this weekend. The fishing part was fun but nothing to speak about, but she sure did get her share of fat crabs! >>Rodney Jones of Fish Whisperer Charters took 2 different parties out this weekend and did real well with sea bass and cod. He even had a thresher hooked up and to the boat! Not sure where he went, but his pictures are posted on our facebook page. >>Ron Scarpetti sent us a picture of himself on the beach with bluefish! >>Captain Bob of Captains Lady Charters out of Bowers took his party out after drum the other night and they were not disappointed! Several drum in the 50# category were boated! >>Matthew Davis, Gaithersburg, MD, caught a citation weakfish at 7.26#, 28.5 at Broadkill Beach on cut bait. >>Ross Grossi, Wilmington, landed a citation weakfish at 6.39#, 27 and a 19 flounder with the same swim shad in the Broadkill. >>Fishing Report by Sue Foster, Oyster Bay Tackle, OC Water temp: 59.7. Nice stripers from the surf! Lots of bluefish action along with sharks, skates, kingfish and blowfish. We weighed in a nice speckled trout from the Fenwick Ditch this weekend! A 26-inch gray trout was caught from the Oceanic Pier along with blues, shad, short stripers, flounder and spike trout. Lots of blues, short stripers, and shad from the Route 50 Bridge at night. Lots of blues around the Rt. 50 Bridge. Flounder by day has been fair. FYI >>Delaware State Parks campgrounds were sold out for Memorial Day weekend The full accommodations include cabins and campsites at Killens Pond, Trap Pond, Lums Pond and Cape Henlopen State Parks. Sites are still available for the weekend of May 30 June 1, and state park officials encourage campers to reserve now for the Fourth of July and Labor Day weekends, as those holidays fill up quickly. >>DNREC s Division of Fish and Wildlife reminds anglers of invasive finfish regulations and harvest opportunities Regulations designate a number of species as invasive, including snakeheads, and authorize bowfishing. They remind anglers and sporting enthusiasts that several species of finfish in Delaware are now designated as invasive, with use of bowfishing equipment authorized for taking them in the state s tidal and non-tidal waters under regulations adopted last year. These regulations expand fishing opportunities for anglers while also enabling them to help DNREC control invasive fish species, including snakeheads, that have recently shown up in Delaware tidal waters. Anglers also should be aware that there is no closed season, nor size or creel limits for invasive finfish, among which are listed three separate species of catfish. To view the revised regulations, click Fisheries Regulations. >>LEWES Delaware beachnesting bird monitors discovered the first piping plover nests of the season at Cape Henlopen State Park last week, with one at Gordons Pond and two on the Point. All three pairs are now incubating their nests. Since it is early in the season, more nests are expected in both locations. To minimize disturbances to the tiny shorebirds, a half-mile stretch of beach at Gordons Pond between the Observation Towers and the Herring Point crossover will be closed to the public this week. >>Tog is closed and will reopen July 17. >>Sea Bass is open 5/19 to 9/18 and 10/18 to 12/31 and 15 fish at 12.5 . Black Drum limits are 3 fish at 16 or better throughout the entire State. >>The May 21st Tidal Finfish Advisory Council meeting has been cancelled. The next regularly scheduled meeting is June 18, 2014. >>South Jersey Shark Tournament - The 2014 competitive fishing season gets underway June 4th through 7th with our 34th Annual Shark Tournament.
