THE SUGs BIGGEST PROBLEMS 1. The school does NOT fully discuss developments with the SUG prior to implementation. The SUG is therefore a third party and not part of the decision making system. Example, the new school fee was announced without the SUGs knowledge. This is either because the new SUG had not been inaugurated as at the time of the decision to increase the fee. But even if they were in office, the school would only notify them of the already-made law via a letter. 2. The students have no faith in themselves or in the Union. The school will therefore capitalise on this to introduce the new laws, knowing fully well that the SUG will be standing alone without support even if they decide to make a move. 3. The FUTMx SUG is comprised more of academically inclined loyalists than social radicalists, the same can be said about the students. Finger pointing and blame throwing is the order of the day. When the average FUT student hears the word protest, his mind quickly pictures a violent atmosphere and that scares him away from the idea of standing for a cause. This is a misconception, protest is a civilised and appropriate way of getting attention. 4. Bulk of the students have been deceived to believe that saying NO to the system means expulsion. The fear of the unknown has crippled future Nigerian graduates and this fear will continue as a habit after campus. Many people are scared to comment on some of our radical posts because they feel someone will mark their name and expel them. Some will say Is it not just five years, abeg lets just manage and graduate But It is not just five years, your overall character is at stake. You are being conditioned to be a blind follower, to agree with every Status Quo. You are being thought how to be a pushover in life. You are developing a bad habit.
