THIS DAY IN MUSIC HISTORY (June 20th): 1920: Danny Cedrone (American session guitarist and bandleader) was born -- he was best known for his lead guitar on Bill Haleys Rock Around The Clock -- he died ten days after that session after falling down a flight of stairs and breaking his neck 1924: Chet Atkins was born -- he died in 2001 1942: Brian Wilson was born 1945: Anne Murray was born 1948: CBS-TV debuts its new variety show, entitled Toast Of The Town, featuring performances by Martin & Lewis and Rodgers & Hammerstein, and hosted by an New York Daily News entertainment columnist and critic named Ed Sullivan. It would go on to become The Ed Sullivan Show and become the longest-running variety show in US history at 23 years 1949: Lionel Richie was born 1954: Michael Anthony (Van Halen, bass) was born 1959: In Paris, The management of the Lido Club calls Elvis Presleys hotel and demands that his entire female chorus line be returned in time for tonights show 1963: I Like It was at #1 on the singles charts for Gerry And The Pacemakers 1968: At Hollywoods Western Recorders, Elvis Presley records the songs Nothingville, Let Yourself Go, Guitar Man, and Big Boss Man.
