THIS IS URGENT! Please call Shelly Silver (518) 455-3791 or (212) 312-1420 today and tell him to NOT support the Senate bill giving more money to charter schools! This will affect ALL public schools in NYS. News reports are that legislative leaders (Shelly Silver, Dean Skelos, and Jeff Klein) are working out a deal to pass a budget by Monday that will include more money for charter schools and even less money for public schools. Please let the Speaker know that New Yorkers do NOT support this horse-trade. (Feel free to call any other Assembly members, other than Fahy, McDonald, and Steck who are standing strong.) PLEASE make this call today and PLEASE ask everyone you know that has been touched by public education to make just this one call. I am asking you all to do this because I know you believe that quality public education lies at the core of true American democracy (and you attended public schools, have children and/or family/friends who do, or simply believe in education for all -- the cornerstone of public education). I have alerts from the NYS Educational Conference Board and the League of Women Voters explaining why we must speak take action ASAP. - I couldnt figure out how to attach them here but I have pasted links to the documents below.
