THIS WEEKS EPISODE DISCUSSION IS The Filibusteros. When the opening scene played a rendition of I Wish I was in Dixie while showing a group of men wearing battered uniform parts, this was pretty much a sign there would be a crazy ex-civil war soldier in it somewhere, and in this episode it was Bucks former commander, Jake Lanier. We do get to witness Cameron Mitchells incredible acting skills as he goes from anger (at the beginning with brother John in the bunkhouse), sorrow and caring at the Rancho Montoya, and grief-stricken in the end when hes forced to kill Lanier. (Sorry, Buck, forgive me but I was so glad to see this guy die in the end.) We find Don Sebastian has taken to his bed, but this time it isnt a trick. He cant seem to find the will to get up, and Mano is both angry and worried about his fathers seeming acceptance of the takeover of his house and the area ranches. We get to see Mano in prominent roles throughout the episode, and we see his care and concern in the end as Buck tearfully turns to him for comfort. Victoria shows strength even though shes worried about her father, and when she is held at gunpoint by Lanier in the end. An episode synopsis is at thehighchaparral/ep117.htm. This is not an episode I usually choose to watch, but did enjoy many scenes on their own this weekend. Are there fans of this episode who would like to tell us what they liked about this one?
