THURSDAYS FORECAST FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: THURSDAY: Well, running - TopicsExpress

THURSDAYS FORECAST FOR THE WEEK AHEAD: THURSDAY: Well, running through events in order, we are starting the day at about 15°C and rising. This mornings high tide will be 10.06m high at 8:50am, which (including the effect of increased air pressure) is 25cm lower than last night. It is therefore a close call, but I think that St Peter Port seafront will stay dry. Next we are on to the power-boating; a force 4 onshore wind will generate a just small amount of chop on the water, but the main message is that spectators will probably want to wear a jumper. Onto the Battle of Britain air-display; we can expect a mostly sunny sky with a few clumps of cloud at about 2000. However, most of the cloud that was initially expected seems now to be destined for Alderney and further north. This afternoons max temp should be about 19°C again but, just like yesterday, the wind should pick up to fresh force 5 east-northeasterly and thats going to feel rather chilly in exposed spots. If you are looking for a sheltered beach then Petit Port is your best bet, but Im not sure if theyve reopened the steps, maybe somebody could let me know please? High tide tonight is 10.17m at 9:10pm, so thats going to be an even closer call down at St Peter Port seafront. FRIDAY: We should still see some hazy sunshine, but we might also get a thickening layer of high cloud, thanks to a fairly close by Atlantic low pressure system. So the sky might not be quite as blue as of late. The winds will be moderate force 4 easterlies, so head to the west coast for that after school/work beach trip. The tide will be very low again though, 0.8m at 4pm, so you might want to wait until sunset, unless you want a very long walk to the waters edge. SATURDAY: This looks like the more sunny day of the weekend, albeit rather hazy. Probably a good beach day if you find some shelter from the persistent force 4 easterly breeze. The best places to do this will be at the northern ends of the west-coast bays. Dont miss the rather rare opportunity to go surfing or bodyboarding. There will be some small but shapely waves (only 1-2 but better than flat) mainly at Vazon. The best times will be between 8am and midday, then again at about 7pm. SUNDAY: Still dry, with moderate or fresh east-northeasterly breezes. More cloudy though, so no cooler at night (probably a min of 15°C) but probably a bit cooler by day, rising only to 18° at best. I doubt that there will be much surf left over, but if you want to try to find some then you should get down to Vazon at about 8am. If you dont get lucky at that time, then we should be in for another little pulse on Wednesday. If you are wondering when this settled weather is all going to change, then I can tell you that next week will not be massively different but we will probably see a few showers everyday from Tuesday or Wednesday onwards.
