TIGHT security was in place as Fijian Prime Minister Frank Bainimarama was sworn in at Government House this afternoon. Armed soldiers patrolled the gardens and manned the three gates to the Presidential residence on Suvas Queen Elizabeth Drive. They were accompanied by members of the police Special Response Unit. The usual single army sentry and orderly at the main gate were supported today by four police officers and three soldiers in full combat gear including helmets and live ammunition. Increased armed security was also evident at the Government House back gate in the Domain and the side entry at Nasova. Troops at the Prime Ministers residence have also been on heightened alert since Thursday.
