Im so in love with this gorgeous boy that my heart actually aches for him and I find myself wondering how hes feeling throughout the day; is he sad, lonely, missing his people? Theres no greater reward than earning the affection of a previously frightened dog and my date with Polo was just such a revelation. After a back-n-forth dance involving the rope, some gentle petting, kind words and lots of bribes I finally manage to leash my reluctant beau and voila! Calmly stepping from his kennel, Polo quickly transforms from timid to trusting as he eagerly trots outside, happy tail wagging in anticipation of the adventure to come. Easy to handle (no more leash issues now!) and welcoming of touch and attention, he calmly lets me dress him for our photo shoot, clean his eyes and massage him all over and its hard to believe this is the same terrified, defensive boy surrendered to our care just a week ago. Other dogs are joyfully met through the fence and when a volunteer working in a neighboring pen chats to him, Polo even gets up on his hind legs to peer over and say hello.
