TO MY FRIENDS IN RUSSIA: The solution to the world crisis (world war?) that is developing in Ukraine is actually in Russia itself. Leaving behind all the manipulation in the narratives of what is happening in Ukraine, it is clear that Putins project is not just one of Russian nationalism but one of revival of USSR/CCCP ideology. I know many of you are against Putins semi-democratic/almost-dictatorial regime but I also know many of you feel that in the Ukraine issue, Russian national interest might be at stake. You might regret later thinking like that. The mega project of Putin is to bring back the countries under Soviet rule to that same period of oppression and that includes Russia. An expanded Russian empire will be one with less freedom. So my dear friends in Russia: while you watched history unveiling in your neighboring country, maybe it is time you think what is your role in shaping history. I am sorry if I sound patronizing, that is not my intention. I just want to make sure you feel that this is not a geopolitic conflict happening somewhere else, but this is what is happening at your own courtyard. The solution for this crisis is not a conquered Ukraine under repressive Russian regime, but an independent Ukraine next to really democratic Russia.
