TOP PRIORITY FOR IMMEDIATE BROADCAST SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WARNING - SOUTHEAST QUEENSLAND for DAMAGING WIND and HEAVY RAINFALL For people in the Gold Coast and parts of the Logan, Somerset, Scenic Rim, Southern Downs, Toowoomba, Redland, Sunshine Coast and Moreton Bay Council Areas. Issued at 2:23 pm Thursday, 11 December 2014. The Bureau of Meteorology warns that, at 2:25 pm, severe thunderstorms were detected on weather radar near the area southwest of Stanthorpe, Canungra, Toogoolawah and the area west of Toogoolawah. These thunderstorms are moving towards the east to northeast. They are forecast to affect Coolangatta, Kilcoy, the area west of Kilcoy and Lake Somerset by 2:55 pm and Stanthorpe, Moore, Mount Kilcoy and Peachester by 3:25 pm. Damaging winds and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding are likely. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should: * Move your car under cover or away from trees. * Secure loose outdoor items. * Avoid driving, walking or riding through flood waters. * Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees. * Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm. * Beware of fallen trees and powerlines. * For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132 500. The next warning is due to be issued by 3:25 pm.
