TORO NOMURA (JAPANESE SCHOLAR ) INTERESTED TO SEEK Ph. An exclusive incidence told by Ramesh Shinde in the article------ One researcher Mr.Toro Nomura from Japan came to India for doing Ph.D. on Dr. Ambedkar. As such, he met Ramesh Shinde at Mumbai for books on Dr. Ambedkar. Ramesh Shinde asked him, “What made you to do Ph.D. on Dr. Ambedkar?” Mr. Toro Nomura replied, “At first, I wanted to do Ph.D. on Gandhi. So I started study on his literatures. I found confrontations of Gandhi and Ambedkar at several occasions and incidences. I was fully unaware about Dr. Ambedkar. Only Dr. Ambedkar had severe confrontations. Other contemporary leaders had not such confrontations with Gandhi. Consequent to this, I was very much curious to know about Dr. Ambedkar & I started studying Dr. Ambedkar through his vast literature and philosophy. Yes, finally I decided to change my plan i.e. instead of doing Ph.D. on Gandhi, I made my mind to do Ph.D. on Dr.Ambedkar.” In this regard, I (Toro Nomura) opine that, it may be true that Gandhi gave independence to India with his non-violence way. This is perennial work. I have respect and honor about Gandhi. But Dr. Ambedkar’s work had upper edge on Gandhi in respect of the perennial work, because he had relentlessly struggled for uplifting life of untouchables to a respectable position because untouchables had a miserable life more than slaves. This is true humanitarian work. He rose worth of untouchables/Dalits. He sensitized self-respect among untouchables and rose worth of humankind as a whole at par. After thorough study of the both Indian great-men, I came to decision to do Ph.D. on Dr. Ambedkar. Indeed, it is said, “Freedom/Independence can be given easily, but raising worth of humankind is an indeed Herculean Task”. Yes, Dr. Ambedkar’s work was evidently indeed Herculean Task.
