TOUR REPORT PART 1 WISECRÄCKER “Modo de Odio” Mexico Tour - TopicsExpress

TOUR REPORT PART 1 WISECRÄCKER “Modo de Odio” Mexico Tour August 2014 Kindly supported by the Initiative Musik gGmbH It has been two years… Almost exactly two years, since we played the exhausting but exciting USA- and Mexico-Tour “Die Rückkehr of the Drunken Bandidos” in July and August 2012. This is of course far too long for a band like us marketing ourselves as “Germany’s most international Ska-Punk band”. Thus, with the help of Cafeina Riot Radio Records we set up another overseas tour; however, this time around Mexico-only because the whole working visa application process for the US would have blown the budget and is just a pain in the ass. Sorry, people in San Francisco and Los Angeles! After many, many emails back and forth eight shows in four Mexican states (BCN, GTO, JAL, and DF) were confirmed. On Thursday, August 7th 2014, we fly from Hannover (and Stockholm respectively) via Frankfurt to Mexico-City. Entering the country is unproblematic… After a short rest at the airport hotel, the next day, we take another plane to Tijuana where we are picked up by our tour manager, Tarek Limas, guitarist of LOS KUNG FU MONKEYS. Day 1 ‐ August 8th, 2014, Ensenada, BCN @ Abel’s Bar: The last time WISECRÄCKER played in Ensenada, BCN, was 13 years ago in September 2001. That being said, hardly anything has changed: a beautiful beach, friendly people, and very touristy in general. After unloading the van, we leave Arne at the venue to set up the sound system and go to Remi’s house to get some food and “refreshments”. The show itself is among the top ten shows we have ever played in Mexico: Great sound (Thanks to Arne!), good performance on our side (despite jetlag), approximately 150 people dancing and singing along as if there was no tomorrow (for example check youtube/watch?v=8inOtJ78DDU), great other bands like NO MORAL from Mexicali, REPTILIANOS, and HIPOGRIFOS. This time around our good friends and co-headliner LOS IMPLACABLESS are supported by the whole WISECRÄCKER horn section when playing their hit single “El Veneno de la Flor”. It was spectacular as you can see yourselves at youtube/watch?v=CO4422lyfMY. After the show we already knew what to expect: hours of signing autographs and posing for photo-shoots. No problem, we’re professionals! ;-) The highlight of the evening, however, is our year-long die-hard fan Jane who gives us self-made WISECRÄCKER shirts and handed us “the cup” celebrating Germany’s 2014 world cup victory. What a great idea! Thank you very much. The rest of the night is spent at Remi’s house drinking beer and discussing nothing and everything. The last WISECRÄCKER goes to bed at 6am… All in all, a very successful start of the tour! Day 2 ‐ August 9th, 2014, Tijuana, BCN @ Black Box: Welcome to Tijuana – for the 6th time… Since 2000, we have played in TJ every time we have toured the US and/or Mexico. We feel at home because the people here make us feel at home. First stop is Bernardo Leos’ (our booker and singer of LOS KUNG FU MONKEYS) house for some Tecate beers. Again, we are treated with tacos, ribs, and mole. Yummy! Then, it is straight to the venue where we are “upgraded” from the Black Box Underground to the main concert hall. Among the supporting acts we would like to stress that CHENCHA BERRINCHES came all the way from Los Angeles, CA, to play with us for free out of mutual respect. It is very much appreciated. Furthermore, LOS KUNG FU MONKEYS play a couple of songs. Cool guys! Furthermore, the all-tattooed girls plus one old dude band BAJO PREXION makes a lasting impression as well. Otherwise, the show is a great success, 200-300 people singing along, major mosh pit, many generations of WISECRÄCKER t-shirts in one room at the same time, and of course the obligatory autograph- and photo-shoot session afterwards… Furthermore, Alex, Andreas, and Ron are interviewed by Dita Quinones/GN$F from NBC (San Diego). The interview should have been broadcasted by now... JP, a friend from Ensenada, also made this video-clip about the show: youtube/watch?v=GWn4wIV3Xnk. Finally, our very good friend, founder of Evoekore Media, and organizer of the Los Angeles Skacore Invasion Festivals, Clemente Ruiz, makes a surprise visit from LA to TJ. What a surprise indeed – and what an honor, bro! Maybe, maybe we will be able to go back to LA someday… Keep your fingers crossed! After the show some people go for tacos while others explore TJ’s nightlife ending up in some cheap Punk Rock bar called Chips early in the morning where the photo-shooting continued… Day 3 ‐ August 10th, 2014, Tecate, BCN @ Licores Esmeralda: Sunday is Tecate day – literally. After a good night’s sleep, we drive 45 minutes to the home of Mexico’s best beer. Again, we are received by the owner of the liquor store and Bernardo’s label partner Ruben and his domestic pig William Larry (drunk again – or still?). The open air “stage”, if you can call it that, in the backyard of the store has hardly improved and has even more “potholes”, but the show is just as great as two years ago with Frank – incredible presence of mind – catching a falling light traverse almost without interrupting his guitar play. 80-100 guests getting drunk, dancing, singing along, and having their posters or CDs signed after the show. Many, many pictures are taken… Afterwards, however, we only have 1-2 hours rest at the hotel nearby, before we have to go back to Tijuana Airport in order to catch the flight to Guanajuato. WISECRÄCKER – Lord of the (Augen)rings!
