TRAFFIC POLICE IN KITUI PUT ON NOTICE By Kiamah Wamutitu Corrupt traffic police officers in Kitui Central district have been put on notice with a caution that they risk summarily dismissal from service. At the same time, area police boss Perminus Kioi has given transport operators with defective vehicles a warning to take them of the road or risk arrest. Speaking to KNA in his office, Kioi blamed corrupt traffic police officers for the high number of defective vehicles plying local routes, noting that errant officers were a liability to the entire police force and decisive action would be taken against them. Kioi said the number of vehicles not complying with traffic regulations especially taxis were on the increase and attributed their upsurge to rogue traffic officers who were being bribed to allow such vehicles on the road. He said re-deployment of traffic officers who have stayed on one route for a long time is one of the measures being undertaken to rein in wayward police officers. The police boss said the increasing number of accidents involving taxis and boda boda cyclists was unacceptable and decisive action was necessary to avoid loss of human lives.
