TRIBUTE TO A FALLEN HERO Adaobi, ibu nwanyi mana igba mbo ka dike. Inwu gidigidi ka nku, nyuo piata-piata ka ntu...mana ndi be anyi si, Na oku dalu ibube anyuchabelo anyu...Adaobi you are dead but you will live on...you will be remembered by many people and lives you touched...Vox populi, vox Dei...Onu mmadu bu onu Chukwu...Nani olu anyi ka aga eji cheta anyi...mgbe anyi rapulu uwaa. Adaobi, your family will remember you...forever. Adaobi you came to America, studied Electrical Engineering in the State of New Orleans, graduated with Magna Cum Laude...came all the way to North Carolina State, which is 2hrs drive from Virginia State where I live, and did your Masters, graduated the same way...all these achievements were before your 25th birthday...you had your share of American stress in the process of achieving these feats...I remembered how you drove miles on end, from State to State all alone and as a young lady, not forgetting the difficulties you encountered with trying to cut your garment according to the size of your coat. Adaobi you drove and flew to different States when necessary for job interviews because you did not know what life after graduation will bring, without a good job and a Citizenship...you were worried. After your final exam; in North Carolina, you did not know what your next move should be...where to keep your stuffs because you did not know where destiny will take you...you decided to rent a place in North Carolina for your bulky stuffs and you brought the most valuable ones down to my place in my Virginia. You always like to help people. I remembered the day we were strolling down to a near-by store in Virginia, and you were telling me how you went to a particular interview and how you so much wish you can get a job there...on our way, we saw a young homeless guy that asked us for money, you started fumbling in your bag for money, for the guy and I was like, Adaobi lets go...I told you that I am scared of going so close to those people because you dont know who has a gun or who will harm you while trying to help...but you said, its ok, and you still reached and gave him money. Two days after this incident, on a Thursday, your phone rang, you answered...Boom!! it was someone from that company you went for interview, She told you, you have been offered a job at their branch in Columbus Indiana, and that you should start on Monday. Adaobi, you started crying...tears of joy. I cried with you because, that kind of miracle does not happen everyday. Ada, you ran to Maryland, to my other sisters house, aunty Cordelia, to gather all your other stuffs in her house together because, the company want to ship everything, including your car, to Indiana. Adaobi, you went to Indiana, worked for some months...called me one day and said, Aunty please, can you give me your account #, and I was like why, and you said that you want to deposit a little something for me. I gave you the # and you deposited $200 for me. I was surprised. I called my sister...Aunty Cordelia, and told her, her exact words were O ka I wee funu. Adaobi, your death came like a tornado... anuro ka egbu, nu ka oda. I just picked Crystal and Alexis up after school, when Aunty Cordelia called and broke the news...I shouted, What? Adaobi is dead? Crystal, my 5yr old, said, Mummy, is Aunty Adaobi dead? Will she be dead forever? Yes! We are not gonna see her ever again? Yes! She was quiet for a while and then, counting on her fingers, she said, Jesus is dead, grandpa is dead, and now, aunty Adaobi is dead...3 people! Adaobi, we will miss you, but before God, you have finished your race. His ways are not our way. Before your death, youve already bought your ticket, to go home this December. Go home and rest in the bossom of the Lord...you still have so much aspirations you want to accomplish in life...Ebe oku nyulu...Awusa owala. Adieu! Adaobi Maechelli Obih. Aunty Lucy.
